Doctor Who star David Tennant has belatedly granted a dead man's wish - by using his skull as Yorick's in a new stage production of Hamlet. Polish pianist and Holocaust survivor Andre Tchaikowsky, who died of cancer aged 46 in 1982, had bequeathed his skull to the Royal Shakespeare Company in anticipation that it would be used in the famous graveyard scene. Of course, he would never have heard of Tennant, who has only shot to fame recently. More here. |

Wow, spooky! I saw this
Wow, spooky!
I saw this production just after it began in Stratford-upon-Avon in late July. Didn't realise it was a real skull.
Mind you, I was fairly busy ogling David Tennant at the time. ;)
:0 that's awful!

Why awful ? I think it's
Why awful ? I think it's quite a nice idea to imagine that you can still be "part of the show" after your death... As a diehard Shakeseare AND Tennant fan, i would have loved to do it !!! :) plus, you can see in every pictures that this skull is handled with care and respect... i'd even go as far as to say with love... the fact that it was not just a plastic prop may have added to the emotional feeling of the graveyard scene...
