Jamie Dunn's return: What it means

I will post a more thorough analysis in coming days, but my immediate thoughts on Jamie Dunn's move to 4BC follow: In the short term, there will be a lot of "sampling", not just by listeners from other the older-skewed stations - 612ABC, 4KQ and 4BH - but also Dunn's old B105 audience and some current Triple M and 97.3 FM listeners. The long term challenge for 4BC will be to keep the older listeners happy while drawing in a slightly younger crowd (people in their 40s and early 50s). If the move works, it will mean a strengthening of both 4BC and 612ABC (who will inherit the listeners who don't like Dunn) and a slight weakening of the other stations. If it really works, BC could mimic commercial talk stations in Sydney and Melbourne and become the overall leader in a very tight market.
Update: Jamie is pictured (thanks, Channel 10) with his longtime sidekick Ian Calder, who will also move to 4BC. Courtney Burns will complete the line-up, which will be on air from January 12 next year. Rod "Mr T" Tiley will read the news in the breakfast slot, and Peter Dick will move to the afternoon shift.

Brett, Luttsy's shaking in

Brett, Luttsy's shaking in his boots, Camilla's too busy to care, Sami Lukis is "Warricked" about nothing, Laurel is trying to hide somewhere... You thought Dunn was Dunn? Coming soon to 4BC's breakfast, Dunn's not Dunn, he has only just begun.

(I wonder if what I wrote sounded like a ad campaign...)

You know Brett, I probably

You know Brett, I probably foreshadowed this. Back on May 6, on a blog talking about Jamie Dunn's last laugh? ( http://showbritz.debritz.net/node/490 ) I mentioned something about "syndicating" Zinc 96.1's breakfast show.

"But first Jamie needs a willing Brisbane radio station AM or FM to "syndicate" the Zinc 96.1 breakfast show for the Sunshine Coast's many intercity commuters and the "new" Brisbane audience."

What 4BC has done is simply a master stroke Brett, to prevent a "syndication" situation happening. Imagine if the Brisbane commercials had to deal with the Gold/Sunshine Coast's radio stations wanting to expand their signals into Brisbane. It would only create a Sydney style radio market with FM stations dominating ratings trying to eliminate AM market share.

Gotta give it to you Brett -

Gotta give it to you Brett - you got the scoop! Congratulations Jamie...now try and keep it clean for your 4BC listener: http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=EFG5vfDp_Q0

Brisbane radio is getting

Brisbane radio is getting interesting! Good to see Jamie back in Brissy. Real radio talent is winning out.

I'm a great fan of Waynee

I'm a great fan of Waynee "Poo" Roberts and I would like to see ARN. get him and put him on 97.3 breakfast up against Jamie Dunn and I think "The Poo" might out rate him . What do you think Brett?

I can't see it happening,

I can't see it happening, Edward. If it did, I think Jamie Dunn would win I'm afraid. He's mush better at self publicity, and I think he's got more drive to succeed.

Jamie, Ian and Courtney

Jamie, Ian and Courtney coming to Brissy couldnt make me happier...... I've had to sit by the computer every morning to hear the hilarity of the team. The banter between the team is 2nd to none. And having the pleasure of seeing them in action in the studio recording the serials such as the Bennetts and the Rudds..these 3 actually enjoy what they do and like one another...Thats why it works. Well done 4BC...... It's about time a Brissy radio station came to their senses and brought Jamie and his team back!

It is an absolute disaster.

It is an absolute disaster. The format does not know to what audience demographic that it is targeting. The banality of the interchange puts one to sleep rather than wakes them up. Dunn is as flat as road kill and the others are hamstrung by his ego. I give them less than a year as the ratings decline. In the 50 demographic we had hoped that there might be some hard hitting, informative intersting break fast show spiced with comedy and dotted with music. How wrong we were.

I agree. It's awful. I was

I agree. It's awful. I was away last week so only tuned in this week. Jamie Dunn is flat and is not really interested in the callers. Bring on the ratings and come to your senses 4BC before it's to late.

I am amazed that people find

I am amazed that people find Jamie Dunn funny. His claim to fame is a rag on a stick. And to add insult to injury, all of a sudden he is an expert on aboriginal issues and other sensitive topics and will discuss these over talk back raio.Stick to walking the beach before you make an absolute fool of yourself

I just want to thank 4BC

I just want to thank 4BC from the bottom of my heart. I live in Gympie and had to stop listening to 96.1 because I absolutely could not tolerate the morning show with Jamie Dunn and his fellow hyena side kick. I am soooo happy they are gone! Thanks Brissy. He's all yours!

as much as i like jamie the

as much as i like jamie the constant constant adverts throughout his program and jamie himself plugging everything and anything just makes me turn it off.

My take on the first radio

My take on the first radio survey for 2009 is here: http://debritz.net/node/1419
