Jamie comes home

Oct 16 update: Jamie Dunn's return to Brisbane, and his debut on the 4BC airwaves, have been announced as expected.

The rumour mill is on overdrive concerning what's going on at Brisbane Radio 4BC following the resignation of breakfast co-host Ross Davie. I now have it from four different sources that former B105 morning star Jamie Dunn is returning from Zinc 96 on the Sunshine Coast to helm 4BC breakfast. One new version has cornflakes incumbent Peter Dick moving to an afternoon or drive-time slot to make way for Dunn. Maybe they are all wrong, but it all seems right. I've been saying here, and elsewhere, for a long time that Dunn would be a hit on commercial talk radio, and potentially Brisbane's answer to Alan Jones (in terms of ratings success, I mean).
PS: In other radio news, ABC Radio National is axing a raft of shows, including Religion Report, Media Report, Sports Factor, The Ark, Perspective and In Conversation.

When did you first predict

When did you first predict this Brett? Is it possible you actually came up with the idea in a discussion with me on 612 Breakfast some months ago?

Is there no limit to your power? You saved the Regent from Shanghai and now you've saved Jamie Dunn from Glasgow!

I've been saying this for

I've been saying this for a long time, Spencer - and yes, I have mentioned it on your show (several times I think) and on my blogs. What's galling to me is how David McDonald was so dismissive of "these blogging things" when the Courier-Mail followed up one of the posts here. I understand that 4BC wants to make a big announcement, but I think there should be some credit for me hitting the nail right on the head - thanks, of course, to my many contacts in Brisbane and beyond.

Thy bow down to Debritz...

Thy bow down to Debritz...

Goodbye Agro... Hello

Goodbye Agro... Hello serious talk. (Speaking of Agro Brett, I wonder what plans Dunn has for everyone's favorite puppet as he would be trying to portray a serious image when he arrives at Cannon Hill...)

I wouldn't write Agro off

I wouldn't write Agro off just yet. At the very least he'll be doing shopping centre appearances I'm sure. Maybe he's ready for a return to TV, too.

I wouldn't put it past Dunn

I wouldn't put it past Dunn to be thinking of a one-off Agro return next year as part of 7 Brisbane's 50th, maybe as a Wombat reunion while paying tribute to Tony Gordon, could be in the works?

Not sure who was first, but

Not sure who was first, but when it is in print there's no question when it was made public.
This was posted in the Sunshine Coast Daily on July 17 giving the hint that Jamie was on the move.
Good to see you're still active Brett on the Brisbane goss.

Yes, the SC Daily did

Yes, the SC Daily did have it in July - and I linked to their story at the time and mentioned them as the latest source on my spot on 612 ABC. However, I've been saying he'll come back to Brisbane for a long time, including this item on my old news.com.au blog from September 2006:
http://blogs.news.com.au/couriermail/showbritz/index.php/couriermail/com...
On my old personal blog about the same time - archived at http://www.brettdebritz.net/debritznet/backup/www.debritz.net/node/844.h... - I suggest 4KQ, 4BH or 4BC would be a good fit for him.

Why does 4bc management keep

Why does 4bc management keep denying it?

My thoughts exactly Edward.

My thoughts exactly Edward. Brett, it's reported in today's confidential that speculation is mounting - but 4BC management yesterday denied that Dunn was the frontrunner. I'll watch this space [showbritz.com] for the latest updates... Thanks Brett!

You were right, Brett! Greg

You were right, Brett! Greg Cary's just announced it (at 11.15am Qld time). Jamie for Breakfast. Peter Dick will remain on air in some capacity. 2009 is going to be an exciting year for Brisbane radio, especially with the new digital channels.

4BC just had Jamie on their

4BC just had Jamie on their lunchtime news saying he is looking forward to doing some comedy and some serious stuff on a show next year.

It has been a long standing

It has been a long standing point of speculation that Jamie Dunn would be working at 4BC. From the moment that it was rumoured Dunn would not be continuing with B105, chatter began about 4BC desperate for Dunn.

As Dunn wrapped up his time at B105, the 4BC team did a 9 min call with Jamie having a very chummy chat.

Speculation increased when Prime Media Group (Prime TV) bought out the station that Jamie Dunn does breakfast on up the Sunshine Coast. Being a listed company, they were none too happy about the high price at which Dunn was lured there by the much more adventurous former owners, now management there.

Since then, there has been much consternation between Carnaby St and Canberra (Prime HQ) about saving costs. Prime has spent $$$$$$ on building new networking facilities but not upgraded the transmitter for Zinc for which they received approval to boost coverage at the start of the year. Without wide coverage, another reason Dunn's price couldn't be justified.

Ian Calder will be saved the drive north each day, but Jamie following his heart scare will be in for long drives again.

The best outcome of the new show is that the old producer from the current 4BC breakfast show is leaving. No one adequately filled the shoes of Brenden Wood after he was given a better offer (not hard!) to ARN.

I guess it is a Dunn deal

I guess it is a Dunn deal now Brett... And as Jamie said himself, "Ian Skippen? He'll be sitting in the corner, sucking his thumb and rocking."

Is it possible they will

Is it possible they will have Waynee "Poo" with him.

I doubt it. That's too

I doubt it. That's too many egos.. But Jamie will have his longtime writer and sidekick Ian "Crikey the Clown" Calder with him.

All hail the all-seeing,

All hail the all-seeing, all-knowing debritz!

A scoop in anyone's language...
