Movement at the stations

| Although Nova 106.9 has apparently decidedThe Sunday Mail is suggesting that Lukis might get the gig full-time, taking over from Frank Warrick who is returning from holidays not to do the Brisbane weather but to read the Nine Gold Coast News. Of course, Nine is kicking itself for "boning" John Schluter, who has been a big part of the success of the resurgent Channel 7 news, but I doubt Lukis delivers the credibility the station presumably wants for its weather report. Still, with reports that the network's parent company is in dire financial straits, it might be more of matter of who they can afford ... | ![]() |

And of course Brett, it all
And of course Brett, it all comes back on one person that the article never even mentioned.
Bruce Paige- Nine's Brisbane weekday newsreader
Lets check the boxes.
Contract expiring. (Check)
Nine Network in debt. (Check)
News getting beat most nights. (check)
Extra beating Deal most nights. (check)
Only the first two will matter. Paige's contract expires in less than three months, while Nine is exposed to the financial crisis unfolding as we type.
I am having serious doubts about Brisbane TV's fiftieth now. It is either now or never for the stations involved to state their case.
My feeling is that Bruce
My feeling is that Bruce Paige will be allowed to "retire" with huge fanfare and plaudits. Given the amounts of money he's earned over the years, he shouldn't have to struggle. Like many in the entertainment industry, though, he's probably regretting he didn't get out when he was on top. Actually - and I'm saying this with no knowledge whatesoever of his position - given the way the super funds have been hit by the global credit crisis, he probably would have been just as well off financially if he had left a year or two ago.
PS: If whoever has to write the relevant media release is reading this blog, and I have reason to believe they will be, please, please, please don't say he has decided to "spend more time with his family".
Speaking of newsreaders
Speaking of newsreaders leaving Brett, also today, it has been announced (and confirmed) that Anna Coren is leaving Seven and TT for Hong Kong and CNN. More here- http://www.news.com.au/dailytelegraph/story/0,22049,24411978-5001021,00....
No surprise there.
Ah well, Brett. I just
Ah well, Brett. I just whipped up a mocked up version of the Nine for Queensland promo with someone I just can't put my finger on... More at- http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=_wYeX__VTc8 (freshly uploaded)
Scary.
Scary.
I made that mockup Brett,
I made that mockup Brett, using a old story from The Shak from 2006 (about how the [then, new, compact] Courier Mail was printed) and the end of the 60 second Nine for Queensland promo (using the music from the 10 second Nine for Queensland promo).
(It also proves a point, Brett. If Nine was desperate for new viewers, they wouldn't be throwing money at the Brisbane station to produce a local promo campaign...)
Sami is doing a fantastic
Sami is doing a fantastic job of the weather. She has a lot of warmth which translates well to tv!
I heard a rumour that MMM
I heard a rumour that MMM were going to pick up Emily-Jane. I hope they don't. I agree I love seeing Sami read the weather.
