Wind still blows strong

For no particular reason, I was looking at the All Time Box Office Adjusted Chart at boxoffice.mojo.com - and I can report that Gone With the Wind is still the top US domestic film of all time based on an inflation-adjusted ticket price. The rest of the top 10, in order, are Star Wars, The Sound of Music, E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial, The Ten Commandments, Titanic, Jaws, Doctor Zhivago, The Exorcist and Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.

"Frankly, my dear, I don't give a damn."
I've seen all of them over
I've seen all of them over the years and the only one I'd never watch again is Titanic.I sat through it first time round and even then thought it was ever so slightly ridiculous.Surely the test of a great movie is how many times you've seen it ? I really think we all got caught up in the massive hype when Titanic first came out.It is ( in my humble opinion) a very ordinary film.
Of course, Titanic is No.
Of course, Titanic is No. 1 when it comes to overall box office total (that's inflation for you). The Dark Knight is catching up on that count, but it, too, is benefitting from a lot of hype. I'm just pleased to see some musicals in the adjusted list.

I have to admit, I'm a "The Sound of Music" tragic ! Expect to cop much flack over that statement, folks ! I have the movie on VHS and DVD, will watch it EVERY time FOXTEL gives it a run, and will generally see some of it when one of the free to air stations give it a run before Christmas.
My Grandmother, God rest her soul, got me hooked on TSOM when I was little. Like her, I notice something new everytime I watch it. I know that it ranks on the "Most Hated Film" list, as well...but I do like it. Horses for courses, or something like that ! I even saw the Von Trapp children when they performed in Brisbane ! Okay...that WAS too much information !

A former colleague of mine arrived in China to find only one English-language station in his hotel room - and The Sound of Music the only film offering. This sport-lovin Aussie confessed afterwards, "I would never have watched it otherwise, but I really enjoyed it."
