ABC of staying put

They'll be rewriting their business plans at the Booroodabin Bowls Club and the Brekkie Creek Hotel following the news that the ABC will no longer be relocating to nearby premises at Newstead. The new site, which was supposed to replace the abandoned "cancer cluster" at Toowong, is apparently radioactive. As least it means ABC Radio can remain at the aptly named Lissner Street.

Brett, this is not going to

Brett, this is not going to boost morale at the ABC at all.

I am surprised that they have not considered as a backup one of the many fibre-connected blocks of land at Greater Springfield to build a broadcast centre.
Another suggestion is the North Lakes area in Brisbane's fast growing outer north.

Go west or north, young ABC... where ever your new broadcast centre will be.

Goodness gracious, the

Goodness gracious, the ABC set would be choking on their lattes and chardies at the very thought of North Lakes or Springfield! Seriously, though, as 4BC has already discovered from the wilds of Cannon Hill, radio and TV stations need to be centrally located if they are going to attract "live" guests. Also, the news crews would be burning up a lot of petrol getting to where it's all happening. Perhaps they could keep small inner-city premises and locate their production facilities further out, but I think the plan is to bring everything back under one roof.

I guess this explains why

I guess this explains why Brett 7's Sunrise usually bypasses Brisbane in favor of either one of the coasts for outside broadcasts.

As for alternate ABC site, there is the Lands Department's land opposite the Gabba, or I have had this idea going around my head that a building in the Queen St Mall (around The Reject Shop/Mr Toys site near Lennons) could easily be converted into a television news/radio production campus (similar to Seven's News Centre in Sydney). Then the search can start for a new Ultimo sized facility (which can allow for audiences) somewhere in the inner city.

I just had an idea! How

I just had an idea! How about the ABC buys the Regent site and rebuilds the auditorium as a concert and live broadcast venue?
