Radio ratings results

The Australian metropolitan radio ratings survey 4 results are in. Highlights include:
+ In Brisbane, it's Nova, Triple M, 97.3FM and 612 ABC overall, and Nova, 612ABC, Triple M, 4BC and 4KQ in breakfast. The biggest gainer in the cornflakes shift was 612's Spencer Howson, who added more than 3 percentage points to rebound from a shocker of a survey last time.
+ Things are not looking bright for the B105 breakfast show, with Labrat, Camilla and Stav now at the bottom of the commercial + metro ABC pile. They now have less than half the rating figure garnered by the networked Hamish and Andy show in the B105 drive slot and are, arguably, dragging the station down. (Sorry guys, but that's the only way I can see to read the numbers.)
+ In Sydney, 2GB still leads the way, but the pack is narrowing and all the majors suffered declines (except Nova, which lifted slightly in breakfast, possibly thanks to Kate Ritchie's Logies win). Alan Jones still leads the pack in breakfast, but ABC702's Adam Spencer has leap-frogged 2Day's overexposed Kyle and Jackie O to claim second spot.
+ Sonia Kruger and Todd McKenney on Sydney's Mix 106.5 had a 0.1 percent rise, which - if it were statistically significant - might be attributed to publicity surrounding McKenney's arrest for drug possession, his stoush with Channel 9 and the brief suspension of executive producer Brenden Wood.
Stay tuned for more details.
Disclosure: Brett Debritz is occasionally heard on the Spencer Howson show on 612ABC and, for various reasons, is no longer heard on the breakfast shows on 4BC and B105 (although he was when they were both getting higher ratings. Coincidence? You be the judge!)

I guess 2DAY FM listeners

I guess 2DAY FM listeners have awakened to what BB and Idol viewers have known for a long time, that Kyle's too overexposed and if he does not cut back his commitments, it will not just be his blood pressure that is high, but the upper-ups at Ten and Austereo's blood pressure and patience as well.

By the way Brett, "B105's

By the way Brett, "B105's Breakfast with Camilla,Labrat,Stav and Debritz" has a nice ring to it. It just rolls off the tounge and into your radio.

Besides it may have been a bad decision for B105 to stop sending the "Black Thunders" on the road. Because ever since the EKKA last year (where there was no B105 or Triple M showbags while Nova sold a caravan full of merchandise.) B105's ratings have been dropping...

Brett, look at this article...

(Skip better watch out... apparently there has been no blog from Skippen at brisbanetimes.com.au this week. Maybe management found out?)

It's an interesting spin

It's an interesting spin on it by Richard Barker. I noted that the cumes are still high for B105, too, but that's not what the advertisers want to hear. I also note that Courier-Mail radio ratings stories always seem to mention how well 612ABC's Madonna King is doing, in this case lumping her in with Spencer Howson (even though her audience share is much smaller than his). I'm not knocking King at all - but she is actually competing in the mid-morning slot, not the breakfast shift, and her result is more validly compared with that of Greg Cary at 4BC. Also, I always declare my potential conflicts of interests, so I think the Courier should note that King is married to its editor, David Fagan.

I completely agree with you

I completely agree with you Brett.

About 5-6 years ago, there was no Nova and pretty much the only mainstream stations a girl in her early 20s had to listen to was B105 and Triple M. Not being much of a Cold Chisel fan, I chose B105.

The breakfast team of Jamie, Penny and Ian were okay and I enjoyed the show. However all of this changed when the once cynical yet witty Penny got married and almost immediately, became pregnant.

All of a sudden she changed from being the independent, career girl type into some kind of “mumsy” caricature, regaling listeners daily with very uninteresting (and not funny, no matter how hard she tried to make them) stories of her pregnancy and new domestic life. I could tell that Jamie and Ian weren’t interested in her stories either.

Her pregnancy was the beginning of the end – and the show eventually disbanded. (Where is Penny now?)

I have nothing against pregnancy, and it’s a fact of life that when a woman gets pregnant, everything changes and it can’t be expected that they will remain the same. My point is that 18-35 year olds just don’t want to listen to it!

In closing, I have to say that Nova (who I now listen to and LOVE) have hit the winning jackpot with Meshel Laurie, who seems to be very content with just her husband and her dogs!
