Jarring juxtaposition

I feel very sorry for Lara Bingle, whose father has died at the young age of 55. But is her personal sadness really bigger news - as smh.com.au (right) would have us believe - than the loss of up to 5000 lives, many of them schoolchildren, here in China?

The earthquake in China...

The earthquake in China... and not to mention 1.9 million people struggling to survive after the cyclone in Burma - still counting the death toll which could range from 63,290 to 101,682 with 220,000 people still reported missing.

But we shouldn't be comparing this to Lara's loss - that's so unfair. The media loves Lara, it's the media who at every opportunity splashes her across their newspaper or blog.

I guess we could say that Lara Bingle has pull...

You are so right. What

You are so right. What annoys me here is that this is supposedly the "quality press".
